description:
Two and ½ days of instruction focusing on mold
sampling and inspection techniques directed at identifying
"Red Flags". Red Flags include, but are not
limited to, identifying areas of moisture intrusion;
inadequate grade, improper clearances, missing or damaged
flashings, exterior wall conditions and materials, roofing
conditions and materials, plumbing conditions and materials,
HVAC systems and condensation and humidity concerns.
Goal:
Upon completion of this class, students will be able
to perform a mold survey and write inspection reports
identifying water intrusion / penetration and understand
how to make recommendations for sampling.
Learning
Objectives:
Upon completion of the course students will be able
to demonstrate a working knowledge of:

Nomenclature specific to residential dwellings,
with special emphasis on the components accessible
during an inspection.

Proper
installation / clearances of a residential dwelling
including foundation, framing, interior and exterior
wall coverings, roofing systems, plumbing, and HVAC.

Ability
to identify defects that may cause water intrusion
/ penetration and condensation concerns.
-
Inspection
report writing and proper communication.
-
History
of inspection - focused on water intrusion
and mold awareness
-
Scope
of the inspection - overview of the inspection
process: grading, wall coverings, roof coverings,
plumbing, and HVAC.

Red
Flags - what are they? Improper grading,
damaged/defective materials - wall coverings,
roofing, flashing, plumbing, and HVAC.

Sampling
Techniques - learn lab guidelines in regards
to the water intrusion areas identified.

Inspection
Techniques - Inspecting
wall coverings, roofing,
flashing, plumbing, and
HVAC systems to identify
water intrusion concerns.

Reporting
your findings - report water
intrusion concerns from
wall covering defects, plumbing
defects to roofing defects.

Making
recommendations for sampling
according to laboratory
guidelines based upon your
findings.

The
Industry - water intrusion
- Exam
Day
3
Students
will go with an instructor to a home
and perform an inspection to apply
inspection techniques learned during
the previous two days of instruction
as well making recommendations for
sampling based upon findings. Field
inspection ends at 12:00 pm.

Evaluation:
Class participation and test at the end of the class.
A certificate of completion is provided for 20 hours
at the end of the class.
