In Nevada home inspectors are required to complete three hours of Safety Training in order to renew their license. Kaplan's new Safety First! course is the only safety-specific approved course in Nevada. This three hour course teaches students the basic requirements of inspection safety. Performing home inspections requires a general working knowledge of the potential hazards inherent with accessing remote areas of the home as well as proper use of tools, particularly ladders, for both inspector and client safety. This Kaplan course teaches students the tools required and inspection methods as well as understanding the ramifications and magnitude of safety issues found or potentially encountered during the inspection.


Course Outline

Course Description: This three hour course teaches students the basic requirements of inspection safety. Performing home inspections requires a general working knowledge of the potential hazards inherent with accessing remote areas of the home as well as proper use of tools, particularly ladders, for both inspector and client safety. This Kaplan course teaches students the tools required and inspection methods as well as understanding the ramifications and magnitude of safety issues found or potentially encountered during the inspection.

Goal: Upon completion of this class students will have a sound introduction to the proper use of inspection tools and potential hazards they may encounter as home inspectors. Students will have a solid understanding of the inspection process and strategies involved to work within recognized standards and provide useful information to their clients.

Learning Objectives - Upon completion of the course students will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of:

  1. Nomenclature of protective gear and tools for inspectors. Specific hazards that are easily avoidable.
  2. Inspection methods and strategies for identifying and/or avoiding safety hazards in new and older homes.
  3. Typical conditions found and reporting.
