InspectNOW 2.0 Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the basic hardware requirements?
   The software will run on Windows XP and Microsoft Office platforms. 64 Bit operating systems are not supported.
   
2. Will InspectNOW 2.0 run on the Pocket PC?
   Unfortunately, no. Support for the PocketPC ended with version 1.2. While 2.0 was not designed to run on the PocketPC, it is backward compatible for those who want to keep using version 1.x on their PocketPC's.
   
3. Will InspectNOW 2.0 run on Windows Vista?
   Yes, but only the 32-bit version of Windows Vista, although we recommend Windows XP. It will not run on the 64-bit version of Windows Vista.
   
4. Can you include digital photos in the report?
   Yes. Photos can be included as addendum in the Matrix report or throughout the report in the Non-matrix format.
   
5. What mobile hardware do you recommend?
   Customers have been successful with laptops, tablets, convertibles, and ultra mobile PC’s. The ultra mobile PC platform seems to be the most popular at this time. There are trade-offs in size, weight, price, battery life, and ease of use. We recommend that you consider these criteria when making a hardware decision.
   
6. Can I install InspectNOW on multiple computers?
   You will need a license for each inspector using the software. However, the Office component can be installed on multiple machines. For example, a typical installation with a single license would be a full install on the Inspector's computer and the "Office" install on desktop computer back at the office.
   
7. Is there a user’s guide?
   Yes. A guide comes on the CD as is automatically copied to the PC during installation. It includes step-by-step instructions on how to get up and running with the software. You can also download a copy here.

How are Code Check references organized and displayed?

• Code Check comments are referenced from the category you are working in. Example: If you’re in Electrical Wiring you see only Electrical Wiring comments. You only see the relevant information from Code Check 4th edition and do not have to search through unrelated comments.

How do I get my Company Logo and Company Information on my Kaplan Matrix report?

• Launch the “InspectNOW Office” application and select the “Companies” menu item in the “View” menu.

• Double-click on the default company record in the list to modify the appropriate information to your company information. Modify the Company Name, Contact Name, Address, and Phone#s.

• To include your company logo select the “Browse” button by the default “InspectNOW” company logo. Using the Open dialog navigate to the “Program Files\InspectNOW\InspectNOW Office\ImagesDirectory\Company_Logos” folder and select your logo. It needs to be in a “jpg” format and previously placed in the designated folder called “Company_Logos” in the “Program Files\InspectNOW\InspectNOW Office\ImagesDirectory” folder.

How do I get my inspection into to the actual Kaplan Matrix report format?

• At the end of the inspection you will create an inspection file by exporting the inspection data using the “Export Inspection…” menu item in the “Export” or “Merge” menu.

• Then copy over your exported inspection data file for this inspection into the “Import-Export” folder in the “InspectNOW Office” folder on your PC.

• You will then import this record into the “InspectNOW Office” system by launching the “InspectNOW Office” application and selecting the “Inspections” menu item in the “Views” menu. Select the “Import Inspection” button at the bottom of the list.

• When the “Open” dialog comes up navigate to the “InspectNOW\InspectNOW Office\Import-Export” folder and select your file that you copied there.

• Your inspection will be added to the current list of inspections. Highlight this inspection in the list and then select the “Create Kaplan Report” button at the bottom of the inspection list.

• Select the Categories you want printed including whether you want a summary report, photo pages or a Contract printed along with the report. The PDF driver will launch and create the Kaplan Matrix report as a PDF file.

• Yes, there is a robust comment library built into the software, and all comments can be edited.

What is the pricing for the pay as you go option?

• $349 for the first 50 inspections; $349 for blocks of 50 additional inspections. You can also upgrade to the full unlimited license version - price varies based on the number of 50 inspection blocks already purchased (see the pricing page for details).

Where do pictures appear in the software?

• Pictures appear on the picture page (one picture per step). Example: if you look at a matrix report you get one picture for each section - Driveway, Sidewalk, Retaining Walls, etc.

How do I get pictures included in my Kaplan Matrix report?

• To include pictures in your report you must first tag the pictures as you are doing the inspection using the InspectNOW PC or Pocket PC application. In the Step Comment text area of the InspectNOW application there is a picture tag button on the bottom of the screen. Select this button each time you take a picture during your inspection and want it in your report. Each time you do this a picture tag is inserted into the comment area of the Step.

• Each time the picture tag button is selected the tag counter will increment automatically. The first time you select it during an inspection it will insert into the comment area the following tag: “***Picture-1;Scaling=100***”. Each subsequent time it will increment the picture number in the tag.

• At the end of the inspection you will then copy over your exported inspection data file for this inspection into the “Import-Export” folder in the “InspectNOW Office” folder on your PC.

• You will then import this record into the “InspectNOW Office” system which will create a folder automatically in the “ImagesDirectory” folder named “InspectionID=xxx” where “xxx” is the inspection number of the inspection you just imported.

• Copy your pictures off your camera media into this “InspectionID=xxx” folder for this inspection.
• When you create the Kaplan Matrix report by selecting the inspection and selecting the “Create Kaplan Report” button the software will then automatically create the report with the appropriate pictures that are tagged in the body of the report. The tags will reference the pictures at the end of the Matrix report in the Photo pages.

How do I get a picture of the front of the house on the cover page of my Kaplan Matrix report?

• To include a picture at the front of the report you insert a picture tag as you take a picture of the house in the InspectNOW PC or Pocket PC software in the Inspection Comment area.

• The Inspection Comment area is available when you are in the Inspection Setup area of the inspection. Select the icon that looks like a small text document (it is next to the “spell” check mark icon) and you will see the comment text dialog for the inspection itself. You will see the picture tag button at the bottom of the screen. Select this button and a picture tag will be inserted for the picture just taken.

• When the pictures are brought over to the InspectNOW Office system just like the other pictures and inserted into their appropriate “InspectionID=xxx” folder the front house picture will be part of them.

• When the Kaplan Matrix PDF file is created the picture tag is found in the Inspection Comment area and the appropriate picture is then inserted on the front page.
