Alan Carson

Alan is a principal in Carson, Dunlop and Associates Ltd., one of the oldest and largest home inspection services in Canada, founded in 1978. He is past President of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) and a past President of the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI). Alan has served as expert witness to courts as high as the Supreme Court of Ontario.

Alan is an experienced teacher and one of the original ITA associates. He's co-authored two books, coupled with numerous papers and articles. One of his books, "The Home Reference Book", is an encyclopedic manual on the technical aspects of homes. This book is used by many companies as their reporting system and by two major real estate associations as course material for their licensing programs.

Robert Dunlop

President

Robert is a pioneer in the Canadian home inspection profession, forming Carson, Dunlop and Associates Ltd. in 1978. He graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Enginerring and has been designated as a Professional Engineer and Consulting Engineer through the A.P.E.O.

To his credit, Robert has co-authored many books and curriculum. These include: "Inspecting a House", "The Home Reference Book", the Real Estate Licensing Course Material on Construction (used by the Ontario Real Estate Association and the University of British Columbia). He also designed the Construction / Cost Estimating Course for the Ontario Real Estate Association's Market Value Appraiser designation for Realtors. Robert was the first Canadian member of ASHI.

James Dobney

In addition to his duties at Advocate Home Inspection, James is the founding President of the British Columbia Chapter of the Canadian Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI) / AMerican Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI). He also served on the Board of Directors of ASHI. James is the recipient of the Stephen Greenford Award for dedication to the advancement of the home inspection profession in Canada.

James has served on government committees investigating the educational and practical skill requirements of both public and private sector building inspectors. He has instructed inspectors for the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) in home inspection techniques and has conducted educational programs for ITA for three years. James also has many years experience as a general contractor and public building inspector.

Duncan Hannay

Vice President

Duncan received his Bachelor of Engineering degree from McMaster University. He is a frequent speaker at real estate seminars, community colleges and conventions. Duncan appears regularly on radio and television speaking about home inspections.

Duncan co-authored the "Home Reference Book" and contributes to the bimonthly publication of "The Carson, Dunlop Report", a technical bulletin. Designated as a Professional Engineer by A.P.E.O., he instructs for the Ontario Real Estate Association. Duncan's expertise has been recognized by the Supreme Court of Ontario via testimony as an expert witness.
