New! Disaster Housing Inspector Basic Certification Class - 8-hour class/8 ICE credit hours
Are you looking for a way to use your home inspection skills to help people in their time of need, as well as an opportunity to diversify your inspection business? If so, you may want to consider becoming an inspector with PaRR Inspections. When the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) declares a federal disaster for Individual Assistance, Disaster Housing Inspectors are deployed to the area to inspect and record damages to homes and personal property. These inspectors are all independent contractors, retained on an "as needed" basis, working under the auspices of The Partnership for Response and Recovery (PaRR Inspections). This class certifies inspectors for deployment by PaRR Inspections. The first half of the 8-hour class includes an overview of the disaster response process, an introduction to FEMA policies and procedures, and a walk-through of the Automated Construction Estimation software (ACE 3). After lunch, all trainees will try their hands at doing "simulated inspections" using a pen-tablet computer, followed by a discussion period. The two quizzes at the end of the class will help reinforce class material, as well as gauge trainees' knowledge of basic construction terminology. Approximately 2-3 weeks after successful completion of the class, trainees will receive letters certifying them as Disaster Housing Inspectors with PaRR Inspections. At that time the trainees will also receive their passwords, which will allow them to print out a formal Certificate of Completion from the PaRR website, and to practice their skills using PaRR's online tutorials while waiting for their first deployments.
