Dana (Carter) La Fleur
National Director of Home Inspection - Kaplan Professional Schools

Dana (Carter) La Fleur is the National Director Home Inspection and is an approved multi-state instructor for Kaplan Professional Schools. Dana is an active leader within the Home Inspection Community as the current President and past Vice President and Treasurer for the San Diego Chapter of CREIA and is also a longtime advocate for expanding the role of women in the Home Inspection Profession. Dana is a frequent speaker on topics of relevance to both the Home Inspection and Real Estate Industries and has been interviewed as a subject matter expert on mold management by Readers Digest Magazine. She is a California Real Estate Inspection Association (CREIA) Certified Home Inspector and the former owner of D & D Property Inspection Service. Dana’s background is in commercial and residential construction management.





Don Norman
Manager of Real Estate Training - Kaplan Professional Schools

Don Norman has owned a home inspection service in St. Louis, Missouri since 1985 and has inspected approximately 9000 buildings during that time. He developed continuing education classes for real estate schools and has written and taught classes nationally for the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers (NAIFA). He assisted in the creation of the National Home Inspection Exam® (NHIE®) and was a charter Board member on the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors (EBPHI). Don has been quoted in numerous print articles, on television and radio highlighting the importance of home inspections and is a contributing author to the ASHI Reporter, Inspection Report and other publications. He chaired several national committees for the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) and co-authored ASHI’s Home Inspection Training Curriculum. He served on the ASHI national board as a Director for two years before being elected as an officer. Don was the President of the ASHI in 2005.




Mitch Sudy

Mitch Sudy, MCI
West Regional Director - Kaplan Professional Schools

Mitch is the West Regional Director for Kaplan Professional Schools and a Master CREIA Inspector and ASHI Inspector. Mitch is a board member and past Vice Chairman of the California Real Estate Inspection Association (CREIA). He served as Chairman of the CREIA Exam Committee for many years, and assisted in the development of Commercial and Residential Standards of Practice. Mitch was recognized as the CREIA Inspector of the Year in 2001 and has served the industry in numerous other capacities at chapter and state levels. Mitch has been a frequent speaker for Kaplan, ASHI and CREIA. He holds membership in CREIA, ASHI, ICBO and IAEI. Mitch is the former owner of AllQuest Home Inspections, a San Diego based inspection firm.




Stephen GladstoneStephen Gladstone
Managing Instructor, Kaplan Connecticut


Stephen Gladstone has been inspecting homes since 1983 and is the President of Stonehollow Fine Home Inspections a multi-inspector home inspection and environmental testing company. He is a past President of both the Southern New England and Coastal CT. Chapters of ASHI®, in CT. He was ASHI’s National President for 2004 and is the Managing Instructor and Campus Director of our Kaplan Connecticut school, in New Haven. He has written many articles for local papers, has been nationally featured in Reader's Digest and The Wall Street Journal, is a contributing author for the ASHI® Reporter, and has his own Saturday morning radio show "Around the House with Steve Gladstone" on WSTC and WNLK radio.



Richard Whitsitt
Director of Real Estate Inspector Education, KPS Texas

Richard is the current Director of Real Estate Inspector Education for Kaplan Professional Schools in Texas and is a well known speaker and trainer. He is approved to teach in multiple states including Texas and Nevada. Richard has helped develop several of Kaplan’s inspector training courses used throughout the United States. Richard started his career in the inspection business in 1995 as a FHA 203k Rehab Consultant. Richard then became a licensed Inspector in Texas and open his multi inspector firm HomeSpectors Inc. in 1996. Richard also become a licensed Certified Applicator with the Structural Pest Control Board in Texas in 1997 and a ICC Certified Residential Building Inspector. Before starting his inspection career Richard owned and operated a home building and remodeling company in Dallas Texas. He also spent several years in the commercial construction industry working on high profile project like the 1902 Interurban Railway Station renovation in downtown Plano Texas (it’s now a museum). His love for construction and the inspection industry led him to become the Building Standards Commission Chairman for the City of Plano Texas in 1997, The Chairman of Texas Association of Real Estate Inspectors North Texas Chapter 1999, The State Membership Director Place 4 for the Texas Association of Real Estate Inspectors 2002 and The National Membership Services Director of National Certified Home Inspectors Association (NACHI) 2006. Richard was nickname “The Coach” because he shares his knowledge and experiences with all Inspectors..




Shannon Cory
Lead Kaplan Instructor, Code Certified

Shannon is President of Rainbow Home Inspections, Inc. and has been performing residential inspections in the metro Atlanta areas since 1998. Most of Shannon’s success has been from his innovative reporting methods, marketing techniques and continuing educational programs. Some of his past back ground, which helped him make the decision to become a home inspector was while growing up in North Alabama Shannon assisted his grandfather who had a small contracting business that built custom homes. Due to the quality of the construction many of these homes appear still structurally sound today. Prior to moving to Georgia in 1979, Shannon spent 13 ½ years with Lamont Doherty Geological Observatory of Columbia University as a technician and research engineer building structures for seismic sites in 54 countries around the world. The last three years while with Lamont, construction took place in Alaska, Chiang Mai Thailand, Charter Towers Australia, Elat Israel, Kongsberg Norway, and New York State. Shannon is a member of or holds certifications in or certificates in the following: Building Officials and Code Administrators International(BOCA), Exterior Design Institute(EDI), Southern Building Code Congress International(SBCCI), International Code Council(ICC), Mold & Healthy Home, National Radon Proficiency Program(NRPP) as a residential Measurement Provider, Mold Surveying and Sampling, and Thermography Building Science. Shannon presently is a member of many of the local real estate associations as an affiliate. Member of ASHI National, a COR Member for ASHI Georgia, past vice-president and co-chair for the membership of ASHI Georgia, and 2004-2006 president of ASHI Georgia. Shannon started with Kaplan as an contract instructor in October 2003. Besides being the lead instructor for courses offered thru Kaplan Professional Schools at both the Atlanta and Tennessee locations, he also instructs at many of the other locations as well.




Jack Fehlandt
Lead Kaplan Instructor

Jack Fehlandt is the lead instructor at Kaplan's Glen Ellyn, Illinois campus. Jack began inspecting homes in 1992 throughout the six county Chicagoland area. A graduate of Kaplan's 2 week Residential Inspection Course, Jack inspected in excess of 3,600 homes before selling his business in 2003. Currently semi-retired, Jack still consults on home inspections. He also is a former member of the State of Illinois Home Inspector Advisory Board and carries the 3rd license number issued in the state of Illinois. Jack is a member of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) and an active member of the Great Lakes Chapter of ASHI and a former member of the Northern Illinois Chapter of ASHI. Prior to home inspections Jack served 18 years in local municipal government as an elected and appointed official including on the city council and as Mayor.




Michael Hart
Lead Kaplan Instructor / Code Certified

Michael Hart retired from the City of San Diego after a 26 year career as a Combination Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Official. He is a licensed Building Contractor and is professionally certified as a structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing inspector by the International Conference Of Building Officials/ICC. Michael is the Education Chair for the San Diego Chapter of the CREIA and is a CREIA Certified Inspector and New Construction Specialist and an ASHI Certified Inspector. He is a Superior Court certified expert witness regarding construction defects and construction standards and has inspected thousands of residential and commercial properties in his career.

Michael holds a teaching credential and is a Certified Instructor for Kaplan Professional conducting Home Inspection Classes and Graduate Series classes on New Construction Inspection, Mold, and Manufactured Housing and conducts numerous seminars and training sessions for homebuyers, Realtors and professional organizations. Michael now owns and operates The Michael J. Hart Company, Real Property Inspection Service and Code Consultants providing professional residential and commercial inspections and consulting services in the greater San Diego area.




Doug Hastings
Lead Kaplan Instructor

Doug and his wife, Julie, are the owners of Cities’ Inspection Service, Inc located in the Twin Cities of Minnesota. Julie runs the office and has scheduled Doug to inspect over 14,000 residential and commercial buildings in the past 18 years. In addition to inspections, for the past 15 years, they have been active in developing curriculum and instructing students. Doug has spent over 1,000 days training home inspection students in the classroom. A 15 year membership in ASHI and a prior career, of 16 years, as a building contractor have prepared him to enjoy every inspection he has completed. Their passion, today, is to empower their students with the tools to be able to enjoy a profession that has and continues to be so good to them.




James “Jaime” Jackson
Lead Kaplan Instructor

James “Jaime” Jackson is a Certified Indoor Environmentalist (CIE), Commercial Real Estate Inspector (CREI), Residential Real Estate Inspector (RREI), New Construction Inspection Specialist (NCIS), Certified Mold Inspector (CMI), Professional Environmental Inspector (PEI), Public Housing Inspector (PHI) as well as being FEMA and HUD/REAC certified. He is the owner of Castrillo Home Service, with two offices in Florida (Miami and Tampa). He was a television personality after hurricane Andrew and is seen in “Surviving the Storm", a Dade County public television special. He is a frequent guest on Terry Hall's “This Week in Real Estate”, nationally syndicated, radio talk show. His company has performed over 3000 various type inspections in the last three years. Jaime has inspected homes for the reality makeover program “Nice Package”, seen on the Oxygen Channel to the homes of Miami 's “Rich & Famous”. Jaime served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for The Women's Shelter of Hope. He is currently working on his first of many children's book series and enjoys spending time with his wife Jeannette and their 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson.




Forrest Lines
Lead Kaplan Instructor

Forrest Lines is the owner of By-Lions Home Inspections in Columbus, Ohio. He has been in the home inspection business since 1998 and has performed over 1500 home inspections. Since 1993 and to date, he has performed more than 13,000 draw inspections for lenders in the Central Ohio area. He is a NAHI CRI (Certified Real Estate Inspector) and is trained in Radon Measurement and has spoken at various functions and seminars educating home owners and realtors concerning misunderstandings that sometimes occur in the home inspection industry. In an attempt to educate new realtors, further his continuing education, and give the realtors that he is working with additional education units, he has sponsored and approved seminars through the Ohio Realty Board and provided them free of charge to the local realtors. Forrest attended Ashland University where he received a BS in Education.




Mike Nelson
Lead Kaplan Instructor

Mike Nelson is an ICC, IBC & IRC Certified Building Inspector, a New York Certified Building Inspector and owner of Certified Professional Inspection. This is his second successful home inspection business. His first, Applied Research Inspection, he successfully owned and operated for 10 years in Tracy, California prior to selling the business and moving to New York. Mike also holds the F.I.R.E. Chimney and Fireplace Inspection Credential # FP010, as well as the New York State DEC Pest Application / Inspection Certification. Mike has taken the Kaplan courses in Mold Survey and Sampling, Mobile Home Inspection and Commercial Inspection, and he was in the very first Kaplan "Fast Track" course. Mike has helped in revising the Kaplan "InspecTrix" inspection software used by over 7,000 companies across the United States and Canada. Mike has performed over 7,500 inspections and has done many "ride along" mentoring training days for new Kaplan trained inspectors. Mr. Nelson is the Supervising Instructor For Kaplan Professional Schools / Inspection Training Assoc. in Rochester NY. Mike has been a presenter at Inspection Expo and the World Inspection Network conferences, as well as NACHI Toronto. Mike was a founding charter member of the CREIA Delta Chapter, and has recently obtained the designation of Certified Master Inspector and Inspector Member of NACHI.




Bill Richardson
Lead Kaplan Instructor

Bill started in the electrical trades in 1970, starting his own Electrical Contracting Company in 1984 and obtained his General Contractors license in 2000. He started his inspection business, Responsive Inspections, Inc., in 1989. Responsive Inspections specializes in commercial inspections, third party code inspections and Construction Management. Bill still holds his New Mexico Electrical and General Contractors license. He is Combination Code certified by the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO) and International Code Council (ICC) and is an Inspector Member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI). Bill is the lead instructor for Albuquerque Kaplan and is a New Mexico Approved Instructor for Journeyman Electrician continuing education. Bill has been an American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI®) Member since 1991 and has served on the ASHI Board of Directors, ASHI Council of Representatives, ASHI National Treasurer for two terms (2004 and 2005) and Committee Chair of the Education Committee for three years. Bill was one of the founding Board Members of the Examination Board of Home Inspectors (EBPHI), served as Vice-President of EBPHI and was involved in the initial development of the National Home Inspector Exam (NHIE). Bill is a founding Member and first President of the New Mexico ASHI Chapter.




Duane Roundy
Lead Kaplan Instructor

Duane is a co-owner of AAA Pest Control Inc. and its inspection division, AAA Inspection Services. He is also a past Vice President of the Washington State Pest Control Association and has participated in several of its committees. He serves on a Washington State Department of Agriculture advisory board which is responsible for the rewriting of the pest inspection portion of the Washington Administrative Code and publishing of a Structural Pest Inspection Manual. He is involved in two WSPCA Committees: he is currently the Chairman of the Home Inspection Committee and is a member of the Wood Destroying Organism Committee. Duane’s 1993 graduation from Kaplan changed the direction for AAA’s Inspection Division from pest inspection to a combination of pest and home inspections. With over 13,000 home and pest inspections over the past 20 years, his new focus is to share his experience with those who are developing theirs.




David Samloff
Lead Kaplan Instructor

David Samloff is the owner of Advantage Inspection Group in the Richmond, Virginia area. He has completed over 8,000 residential and commercial inspections over the last 16 years. David also performs commercial draw inspections throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. As the sole owner and operator of three inspection companies, he has been an inspector in both San Diego, California, and Richmond, Virginia. David is a Certified ASHI Inspector and one of approximately 300 Virginia Certified Home Inspectors. In addition, he is the President of Central Virginia ASHI, member of the Virginia Association of Real Estate Inspectors, and a former Certified CREIA inspector. Previous to his inspection profession, David was involved in the Hospitality industry for over 15 years as a General Manager and Project Manager for a variety of hospitality companies and involved himself in the design, development, and construction of several large hospitality projects throughout the nation. During his free time, he is a devoted husband and father of three children.




Keith Smith
Lead Kaplan Instructor

Keith is a professional pilot; his background in general construction and the desire to own his own business lead him to pursue the home inspection business in 2001. Since graduating from Kaplan Professional Schools, Keith has expanded his business from a single inspector performing hundreds of inspections in the valley, to a very successful multi-inspector company. He feels that his commitment to train all of his inspectors through parallel inspections ensures quality inspection techniques. Keith continues to pursue excellence through attending extended education as well as teaching home inspection classes to real estate agents throughout the valley. Keith’s latest endeavor involves software development to further enhance the home inspection profession. Keith is proud of his success; Comprehensive Property Inspections is one of “Arizona’s Most Trusted Inspection Companies.” He attributes a great deal of his success to the marketing skills and knowledge he has acquired while attending Kaplan classes.




Ralph Baca, P.E.
Kaplan Instructor

Ralph Baca, P.E. is the owner of Baca Engineering, LLC. As principal engineer Ralph is a licensed professional engineer in both Arizona and California with over twenty years of design engineering, construction, and inspection background. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology. Ralph is a licensed Arizona home inspector and an active member of several building inspection and engineering societies, such as NAHI (National Association of Home Inspectors) and ASHI (American Society of Home Inspectors). Currently he is servicing as President of the local NAHI (National Association of Home Inspectors) Arizona chapter and recently, in 2004, served on the ASHI National Educational Committee. Ralph has also served as an instructor teaching home inspection courses at the Southwest Institute of Property Inspectors and at Phoenix College as well as a featured speaker at several local home inspection association meetings and conferences.




Ray Baird
Kaplan Instructor

Ray Baird is the owner of RCI Services, a home inspection firm serving the greater Nashville area. He has been performing inspections in the Middle Tennessee area since 1997. Ray trained at Kaplan’s Enhanced Residential course in Southern California. His prior experience includes over 30 years in all phases of commercial and residential construction including international construction work. He has significant experience working with Underwriters Laboratory on UL system designs and was instrumental in implementing the Interpolation Clause. Ray is an ASHI member and currently serves as secretary of the Mid-Tennessee ASHI Chapter. He is affiliated with Kaplan’s Nashville facility.




David Becker
Kaplan Instructor

David has been the owner of Superior Inspection Services, in Temecula, CA for 15 years and has performed over 6,000 residential and commercial inspections, along with providing litigation support, progressive construction inspections,intrusive investigations and problem identification. Born and raised in the construction and real estate industries, David also has over 20 years of “Hands On” experience in residential and commercial development as a laborer, carpenter, foreman, superintendent, project manager, and purchasing agent. He has served CREIA, (California Real Estate Inspection Association), as Chapter Secretary, Inland Empire Chapter President, twice as Palm Springs Chapter President-(Founding Chapter President), State Secretary, and earned the Chapter Presidents award 3 times. David is a Certified Real Estate Inspector member of NAHI, (National Association of Home Inspectors), and a member of several other inspection associations including ASHI, IAEI, and NARREP, and is a licensed California real estate salesperson. He also serves as an instructor for a national real estate brokerage regarding agent disclosure and the real estate inspection industry, and has written several articles for industry related publications.




Jeff Blixt
Kaplan Instructor

Jeff graduated from Augsburg College in 1977. From 1978 to 1983 he was a Licensed Real Estate Agent with Real Estate10. From 1983 to 1990 Jeff was a Mortgage Banker Production Manager. Since 1990, Jeff been President of Inspecta-homes. Jeff is also currently an Arbitrator for C.A.S., since 2003.




John Bouldin
Kaplan Instructor

John Bouldin is a professional Virginia-certified home inspector and owner or ProTechs Home Inspections (www.protechs.net) in Alexandria, VA. He is a member of the Virginia Board for Asbestos, Lead, and Home Inspectors, which is the Regulatory Board that administers the Virginia Home Inspector certification program. John is affiliated with ASHI and NAHI and earned a BS and an MBA from Virginia Tech.. John has personally performed over 4,350 home inspections.




Stacy Busch
Kaplan Instructor

Stacy is the owner and president of WIN Home Inspection of Englewood, formerly World Inspection Network of Englewood. He started his home inspection business after spending 12 years as a full service plumber.  His plumbing background includes commercial and industrial new construction and service, and residential new construction and service. Stacy still maintains his license in plumbing. Stacy also worked 2 years as a state of Ohio licensed pest applicator with Terminix International; here he performed mostly residential pest control and pest management.  He currently holds a pest applicator license from the State of Ohio Department of Agriculture, so he can perform WDI inspections. Through his career he has also volunteered his time as a level II firefighter/EMT.  The structural training that went along with the professional firefighter training really has proved its worth in the inspection business.  He has two certifications in residential electric from the State of Ohio Department of Vocational Education. Stacy is a full member of ASHI. He also is a continuing educational instructor with the Dayton Area Board of Realtors, where he teaches real estate agents about the process of a professional home inspection.




Joey Caballero
Kaplan Instructor

Joey Caballero has been a home inspector since 1992. Joey is the president/owner of 5th Avenue Building Inspections a multi inspector firm serving South Florida . His company has done over 20,000 home inspections and he personally has performed over 10,000 home inspections. He has been an ASHI and FABI member since the beginning of his career, offices included past president of the Gulfstream ASHI ( South Florida ) chapter and the Florida Association of Building Inspectors (FABI). In addition, he is active with ASHI and FABI national and state committees. Joey holds certifications from ICC as a plumbing and electrical code inspector, state of Florida certified pest control operator in the WDO category, an Indoor Air Quality certified indoor environmentalist CIE, and a Kaplan Professional School Instructor.

 


William A. Clark
Kaplan Instructor

William A. "Bill" Clark has been a real estate instructor since 1982, and was state certified in 2004. He has been a licensed real estate agent since 1972. He is a member of GFWAR, TAR & NAR, a Real Estate Broker, and Member of the Society of Commercial Brokers. Bill was an appraiser for 10 years. He has taught Consultant Tax Deferred Exchanging. Bill served as President of North Texas Exchangers for 2 terms. Bill has been inspecting properties since prior to licensing law, as a Professional Real Estate Inspector since since1986. He is a member of the Texas Association of Real Estate Inspectors, and served as Chairman Elect for the Local North Texas Association of Real Estate Inspectors. Bill is a Texas Insurance Adjuster & VIP Inspector, FHA HUD 203k Consultant, as well as a Texas Structural Pest Control Applicator, licensed since 1986.


 

Rob Claus
Kaplan Instructor

Rob Claus is the owner of Lifeline Inspections and Consulting, Inc. Prior to owning his own firm he was most recently the Territory Manager for U.S. Inspect - Chicago. Rob has a great deal of teaching experience. He was the Vice-President, Director of Operations of The BrickKicker, a national Home Inspection Franchise Company. During his twelve years with them he was the primary educator for the franchises as well as their private home inspection school. Mr. Claus' education is Bachelors of Science degree from Illinois State University majoring in Industrial Technology - Construction Sequence. In addition to being the Territory Manager for U.S. Inspect Rob is currently a member of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation Advisor Board for Home Inspectors and two-time Past-President of the Northern Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors. Rob has spoken at National forums for Home Inspectors as well as Realtors and has personally trained over two hundred and fifty home inspectors through his career. Mr. Claus has been a professional home inspector since 1988 having personally completed over 5000 fee-based home inspections.




 

Mike Conley
Kaplan Instructor

Mike Conley has thirty-one years experience in all facets of residential and commercial construction, repair, remodeling and condominium conversions. He is experienced as a laborer, carpenter, foreman, superintendent, project manager, construction consultant and estimator. Mike has been inspecting homes for eighteen years. His inspection experience encompasses municipal code inspections as a building official, relocation inspections for three national relocation companies, insurance and bank, building evaluation, partial and complete resale and mortgage home inspections. He is also has experience as inspecting commercial buildings as well as new construction monitoring and walk through inspections. Mike is active with the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI), has served on its Board of Directors and taught many seminars at ASHI’s National Conference. He is a well known speaker in his market area and nationally on various subjects pertaining to the home inspection profession.

 

Mark Cramer Mark Cramer
Kaplan Instructor

Mark is the lead instructor at Kaplan's Tampa, Florida school. He has thousands of hours experience training home inspectors in classroom and seminar settings. Mark holds certifications from ICC as a Building Code Inspector and Standard Coastal Construction Inspector. Mark has appeared in numerous interviews on TV, radio and in print media including NBC's Dateline in a story on new construction defects. A long time ASHI member, he's held numerous local and National positions within ASHI, serving as chair of several national committees, National Secretary, Vice President, and National President of ASHI in the year 2000. He's received ASHI's Monohan Award and President's Award for outstanding service to the home inspection profession. Mark Cramer is a FL licensed contractor and operates a building and home inspection firm serving the Tampa Bay area. He also serves as an expert witness in legal cases involving construction and home inspection.




Bob Davidson
Kaplan Instructor

Bob’s background includes many years as a General Contractor, building housing and apartment projects. His primary antecedent as a Commercial Construction Superintendent, building many shopping centers in Southern California, brought him extensive experience in all phases of commercial work. Consistent with his dedication to the inspection industry, Bob is also an instructor for Kaplan Professional Schools, teaching Plumbing, Roofing, HVAC, Marketing, Commercial, Exam Prep and New Construction Inspection classes. Currently Bob is Co-Partner and Principal Inspector of DavidsonInspection.com; having provided over 4000 fee paid commercial and residential inspections in Southern California. His business also involves Course of Construction Inspections, Intrusive Investigations and problem identification. He is past President of the San Diego Chapter of CREIA (California Real Estate Inspection Association) and was on the board of directors for four years serving as an officer in the local chapter organization.



     
   

Ryan Delaney
Kaplan Instructor

Ryan is currently the President of Limitless Property Services Inc., a home inspection company servicing the Phoenix metropolitan area since 2003. Ryan has performed nearly 1000 paid residential home inspections, as well as several commercial inspections. Ryan’s background in residential and commercial construction was a natural transition to becoming a professional home inspector and he is looking forward to many more successful years in the home inspection business.




Jay de Wolf
Kaplan Instructor

For the last 14 years, Jay has owned and operated DeWolf Inspection Services in the San Francisco Bay Area, performing over 3,000 inspections. He conducts Commercial and Residential Inspections, New Construction Inspections, and assists in construction defect resolution. He is a member of ASHI and CREIA. He has presented at the national conference for ASHI and for Kaplan's Expo. He has been an Kaplan instructor since 2002. Jay has experience in a variety of industries including high technology, pharmaceutical and defense, and in facilities engineering and construction management. Jay graduated from California Polytechnic, San Luis Obispo, Bachelor of Science, School of Engineering, Industrial Technology.




Chad Fabry

Chad Fabry owns StructureSmart Home Inspections, Inc and is a professional property inspector and construction / renovation consultant for homes and buildings of historic significance. His reverence for older homes has provided hands on experience in every aspect of construction from foundation replacement to finish cabinetry. Chad is a member of IHINA (Independent Home Inspectors of North America) and a member of InspectHistoric which is a home inspector association devoted to the preservation of historic homes and buildings. Chad was in Texas and Louisiana for nearly three months following hurricanes Katrina and Rita performing damage assessment inspections for FEMA.




 

Lloyd Gibbs

Lloyd Gibbs is a course instructor at the Kaplan Las Vegas school. His overall experience, licensing and certification give Lloyd the foundation to provide Kaplan students reliable property inspection instruction. His credentials include State of Nevada Certified Inspector of Structures #980-GEN (an advanced classification of the State of Nevada certification system). Lloyd has held State of Nevada Contractors Board licenses in plumbing and carpentry. In addition, Lloyd’s formal education includes a BS degree from California Polytechnic State University at Pomona and JD degree from California Southern Law School at Riverside.

Lloyd Gibbs has been a hands-on contractor since 1971, remodeling and repairing thousands of homes and buildings in Clark County. As head of his own business for over 30 years, Lloyd has enjoyed a level of trust and respect matched by few. He has a long “in good standing” history at the State of Nevada Contractors Board and the State of Nevada Real Estate Division. This reputation follows him as head of Lookin’ Good, Inc., Home Inspections. Lloyd is married and has lived in Las Vegas since 1962. Lloyd and his wife, Sunny, have an active interest in the Las Vegas community. Their current community project is their Adopt-A-Highway commitment.



   

Patrick Goyer

Patrick created and built Atlanta Home Inspectors to a three-person team, providing all home inspection needs. For the real estate industry, he is certified by the state of Georgia to conduct two accredited three-hour continuing education courses pertaining to home inspections. Patrick has a Thirty-three year sales and marketing background in the consumer industry. Educated at Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He has certifications with: American Society of Home Inspectors, Board Member of A.S.H.I. Georgia Chapter, International Residential Code, Exterior Design Institute, Moisture Warranty Certification, Environmental Solutions Associations Certified for 200 and 300 Level Advanced Training, I.T.A. Bill Gunther
Kaplan Instructor

Bill is President of BJK Property Inspections Inc. and has been performing residential and commercial inspections in the middle Tennessee area since 1996. Bill grew up in a construction family. His father was a general contractor who built homes and commercial buildings. He has over 35 years of construction experience including: working as a licensed electrician, union carpentry, carpenter foreman and building superintendent on major projects. Prior to being a home inspector Bill was a police officer in New York and retired after 23 years of service. His duties included patrol, investigation, training and supervision and shift commander. During his years with the PD, he also worked as a licensed general contractor with his father and on his own. Bill has been active in the ASHI (American Society of Home Inspectors) on the local level and was the founder the Mid-Tennessee Chapter. Bill served as president for three years and is currently serving as treasurer. He has also been active in preparation of the pending Home Inspection licensing legislation in Tennessee. He is a graduate of EDI ( Exterior Design Institute) and is an EPA listed Radon Measurement Operator. Combining investigative skills with his knowledge of buildings and their systems enables him to better serve his clients. His strong feelings about the importance of having properly trained professional home inspectors to protect buyers in the process of purchasing a home has lead him to teaching.

Brian Jarvis

Brian Jarvis is a retired research fisheries biologist who has started a new career as a property inspector. Brian is a certified member of the California Real Estate Inspection Associations (CREIA) Inspector and a certified American Society of Home Inspector (ASHI) inspector #246641. He is an active member in the local CREIA Golden Gate chapter and is currently the chapter president. After graduating from Kaplan ITA and tagging along with several CREIA certified members, he started inspecting property the fall of 2002. Education is key to becoming a competent and informative inspector. He enhances his education by setting up toolboxes for local chapters of CREIA/ASHI inspectors, teaching his clients, Realtors, and other inspectors the art of home inspection. He is also attending code classes at local colleges, classes at Kaplan, and CREIA and ASHI sponsored conferences. He is a new instructor at Kaplan’s Oakland educational facility teaching courses on home inspection. The Jarvis Home Inspections motto is “Inspect To Protect Your Investment” and education is the way to becoming a competent and informative inspector. See You in class.




Andy Kasznay
Kaplan Instructor

Andy Kasznay is the owner of Kasznay’s Building Inspection Service LLC. Of Harwinton, CT. He has been an ASHI member and a home inspector since 1992.  Prior to entering the home inspection business, Andy operated a family owned electrical, plumbing, and heating contracting business while maintaining an affiliation with the U.S. Air Force Reserve. Andy retired from the Air Force as a Colonel following thirty one years of service.  Andy joined the Kaplan staff in 2003, and teaches all modules of the home inspection curriculum and also teaches the Commercial Inspections Specialty Course. Andy presently serves on the National Board of Directors of the American Society of Home Inspectors.




Robert Knepshield

Robert Knepshield is owner of RBS&K Home & Building Inspectors Inc. He became a professional home inspector in 1992 when he started RBS&K Home and Building Inspectors, Inc. RBS&K Home & Building Inspectors currently has four inspectors. Rob is an ASHI member; Kaplan trained and is a professional instructor at Jones College for the Kaplan Denver School. He has served as treasurer, secretary, vice president, president, and education chairman of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of ASHI. He recently served as the Colorado COR leader and COR group leader for ASHI national. Rob is an affiliate member of the Aurora Association of Realtors and serves on the Affiliate Committee. He has been Affiliate of the Year and is a past chairman of the Affiliate organization.




Robert H. Leslie

Robert has 50 years of building experience with U.S., Australian and international patents in residential building materials and building systems. Patents include electrical, plumbing, insulation systems, structure and fasteners. Robert has lecturing and instruction experience in USA, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, England and Scotland. He is currently an instructor with PROSOURCE/Kaplan Minnesota, with more than two seasons experience, teaching residential building subjects related to Residential Contractors, Home Inspections, Appraisers and Realtors. PROSOURCE duties include rewriting and new course writing in the Residential Contractor area.



 

Allan Monat

Allan Monat is an Illinois Licensed home inspector (license # 050.0000005) and is the owner and operator of Metro Real Estate Inspections, which has completed over 5,000 inspections. He is a member of the Illinois Home Inspector Advisory Board and a National Association of Home Inspectors CRI Member. Allan also sits on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Home Inspectors, as well as the Board of Directors for the Illinois Chapter. Allan is an instructor with Kaplan as well as a state licensed continuing education instructor for Oakton Community College.



       

Paul Neis
Kaplan Instructor

Paul has owned and operated Harbor Home Inspections since 1997, earning a reputation as the local “bulldog” inspector. He is a member of the American Society of Home Inspectors (member # 201816) and current treasurer the Western Washington chapter. He is also a Washington State licensed Structural Pest Inspector (license # 54154). Before entering the home inspection business, he had a 22-year career in construction as a carpenter, timber framer, general contractor, and designer on projects ranging from small residential remodels to the Boeing 777 facility. He enjoys the opportunity to pass his experience along to those who can benefit from it.



 

Dan Norby

Dan Norby is an owner of Home Maintainers, one of the Twin Cities largest home maintenance companies. He has 18 years of experience in construction and is a licensed contractor and home inspector in Minnesota. Dan's focus is on the maintenance side of the home industry and he specializes in the application of Minnesota's very unique energy code. He's a past board member of NARI (National Association of Remodeling Industry) and in addition to teaching for Prosource he teaches classes on home maintenance to homeowners in the Twin City area. He studied Architecture at the University of Minnesota and has experience in design, carpentry, commercial and residential project management.




Ed Novik
Kaplan Instructor

Ed Novik has been President and Senior Inspection Consultant of Accurate Inspection Services, Inc., Louisville, Colorado since 1995. He is also a technical instructor for Kaplan Professional Schools – ITA Colorado and teaches residential building inspection, real estate continuing education and environmental-related courses in Denver and in other parts of the country. He is also engaged in course development work for these and other institutions. Prior to entering the home inspection and environmental consulting field, Ed spent 15 years as a systems design engineer and prior to that, 10 years in residential construction. He is also a U.S. Navy veteran having served as a shipboard weapons specialist and technician. He holds BS and MS degrees from Colorado State and Arizona State Universities. Ed is a certified member of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI), and a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and the International Code Council (ICC). He is also a Certified Indoor Environmentalist by the Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA), a Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant (CIEC) by the American Indoor Air Quality Council, and a certified Radon Measurement Provider by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) and is an affiliate member of the Boulder (Colorado) Area Board of Realtors. He is the father of three children and lives with his wife, Anna in Louisville, Colorado.




Lionel J. Nowotny, PhD

Lionel ("The Train") is the Senior Inspector Instructor at the Leonard-Hawes, Kaplan Inspector School in Dallas, Texas. Lionel is a “Distinguished Graduate” of the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD (1961) and earned a PhD in Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin (1971). He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy serving on Nuclear Submarines and in numerous engineering management assignments during his twenty-year military career. He is a Registered Professional Engineer, Licensed Real Estate Broker, Professional Inspector, Mortgage Broker, Real Estate Appraiser and a Property and Casualty Insurance Adjuster. In the past he has founded several corporations pursuing engineering and real estate related services. He developed the first operational “Business Incubator” in the City of Dallas and was a consultant to the Puerto Rican Government in economic development in the early 1990’s. He has been the president of the Texas Mini-Storage Association, Board Member for the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce and a national Trustee for the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association. His many credentials are a result of his love for learning and teaching coupled with a belief that he lives by: “The more knowledge one has about the overall industry, the more effective he/she will be.” Lionel has developed a highly effective “Exam Preparation” course for Inspector Licensee Candidates as well a system by which prospective, current and past inspector students can communicate their ideas, questions and concerns.

Rick is the owner of Rick Rogers Home Inspection Services and has been inspecting residential properties since 1992 in north Georgia and metro Atlanta. He has inspected over 4000 homes during this time. Prior to entering the home inspection field, Rick had over 20 years of previous construction experience. He was a Florida Licensed General Contractor, a Warranty Service Manager for a national homebuilder and has done building construction and home repairs in three states: Florida, Colorado and Georgia. Rick has been featured on local television news consumer report segments, been quoted in articles for The Atlanta-Journal Constitution and the Atlanta Business Chronicle, and has been called to testify as an expert witness in arbitration and litigation proceedings. Rick has been a member of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) since 1994 and has been President of the Southeast Chapter as well as a member of the Council of Representatives for ASHI National. He is also a member of Georgia Association of Home Inspectors (GAHI) and Metro Atlanta Inspectors Association (MAIA), and ICC International Residential Code certified as a Residential Combination Inspector.


   

Bryan Rose

Bryan Rose is the president of Rose Inspections Co., a multi-inspector firm. Bryan has been inspecting since 1996 and has personally performed over 5,000 inspections. He is a graduate of Kaplan, a member of both ASHI national and the Rocky Mountain Chapter of ASHI, and belongs to the Aurora Association of Realtors. Bryan is a native of the Denver area and a veteran of both the Army and Navy. When asked on numerous occasions his opinion of Kaplan, Bryan states, “I truly believe I can attribute the success of my business to Kaplan. Joseph Rosso

Joseph Rosso is a Certified Residential Inspector of Structures for the State of Nevada and currently the owner of Inspection Associates Home Inspection Services in Las Vegas . Joseph got started in the construction industry back in 1973 working in the family floor covering business. Joseph attended Kaplan ITA’s in 2002 and to date has performed over 1500 home inspections. Joseph became a certified member of Southern Nevada Association of Professional Property Inspectors in 2003. He currently is an Appraisal Intern with the intention of expanding his Home Inspection business to include appraisals as well. Joseph has assisted a number of new inspectors in starting their own inspection businesses by helping them thru the transition from classroom training to real world business.

 


Stephen Ruback

Stephen is a licensed Professional Inspector; providing Real Estate inspection services in the Greater Houston area since 2002 and has been an instructor with Leonard–Hawes since 2003. He is approved by the Texas Real Estate Commission to teach home inspection topics to inspectors and Realtors, as well as qualified to teach legal and ethics classes for Realtors. His Bachelor of Science degree from Trinity University includes all three disciplines of mechanical, chemical and electrical engineering. Stephen’s work history includes more than 20 years experience in many phases of microelectronics engineering from process and product design, operation and control to design and fabrication of entire production facilities. He has owned 8 different houses , one of which he designed and built from the ground up. For more than more than 15 years he has provided repair and maintenance contracting services in the Houston area, specializing in creative solutions for difficult problems. His professional associations include membership in Texas Association of Real Estate Inspectors, including the Greater Houston Chapter, and Houston Association of Realtors. Author of many technical articles, as well as several books, he is currently a contributing editor for Real Estate Executive Magazine both local and national editions. Ron is the owner and general manager of a real estate services company that employs teams of appraisers, home inspectors, property managers and preservationists. He was previously a bank loan officer involved in financing homes. He also considers himself a re-developer in that he purchases distressed houses and rehabilitates them. His personal experience includes moving existing homes to other locations. "Hands on" barely scratches the description of his participation in all of these endeavors. This varied background in the field provides a unique perspective to home inspection instruction. He has personally seen a good share of the problems that people, time and the elements create during the life of a house. An instructor at Prosource since 1999, he finds his classroom time to be an enjoyable opportunity to share these experiences.
